Benin City Museum is a premier national museum. It is located at the city centre along King’s Square. National Museum Benin City boasts of a notable number of historic and cultural artifacts like the bronze figures, cast iron pieces, and terracotta related to the Benin Empire.

Cameras are not allowed into the museum.

The gate fee is 300 naira per adult and 200 naira per children and 1000 naira for foreigners.

Explore the Oba Akenzua Gallery on the ground floor of Benin National Museum. Some of the major artifacts here include the head of the renowned Queen Idia, samples of shotguns used during the Ida war and bronze casting of a gun powder keg.
  • Look through some of the beautiful artifacts from within Benin City, neighboring communities and Delta State on the first floor.

  • Get a glimpse of the various historic relics and artifacts from around the country on the last floor also known as Unity Gallery.

OBA OF BENIN'S PALACE, BENIN CITY, NIGERIA

 
Oba of Benin's Palace is a cultural centre located in the heart of Benin, Edo State. It is notably home to the Oba of Benin and other royal rulers. The royal palace of the Oba of Benin was made a UNESCO heritage site in 1999.

Tips:
There are a number of restricted areas within the Oba’s Palace like the royal women’s quarters and the Ehengbuda shrine. Therefore, visitors are advised to get a guide who is familiar with the Oba of Benin's palace when visiting.

Visitors are advised to take note of the various taboos at the Oba of Benin’s palace like the wearing of black apparels is forbidden, pointing fingers is seen as a sign of disrespect and whistling is prohibited.

  • Learn about the rich history of the Royal Palace of Oba of Benin, built by Oba Ewedo in 1255AD – 1280AD and how it was demolished in 1897 during the British expedition.

The Ogba Zoological Garden covers over 20 hectares of reserved forest. The Zoo has various wildlife on display for lovers of animals and nature to visit and have a look at.

Best time to Visit Ogba Zoological Garden
Ogba Zoological Garden can be visited at any time of the year. The Zoo is opened every weekday from 9 am to 6 pm.
