Agriculture (part 2) Palm Oil:The vegetable oil that fuels a $50 billion business

Agriculture is not crop production as popular belief holds - it's the production of food and fiber from the world's land and waters. Without agriculture it is not possible to have a city, stock market, banks, university, church or army. Agriculture is the foundation of civilization and any stable economy.

Before you set foot outside your home each day, you've more than likely washed and eaten with this ubiquitous oil.
As the most widely-used vegetable oil worldwide, palm oil is found in everything from soap and shampoo to cereal, bread and cosmetics. About half of all packaged products sold in supermarkets contain palm oil, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

Palm oil's popularity has skyrocketed in recent years. It's the most efficient source of vegetable oil, and its high yield makes it cheap to produce. It remains solid at room temperature, making it an incredibly versatile commodity. Demand has been increasing since the 1970s, making it a valuable and profitable business already worth $50 billion a year, and projected to rise to $88 billion by 2022. While crude oil prices is unstable, sells at $39-40 per barrel Palm oil sells at $90 per barrel at the international market.

Palm oil producers have turned their eyes to Africa as their next growth spot.

The plant is native to Liberia, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Benin and Democratic Republic of the Congo, but Nigeria is by far Africa's largest producer of palm oil, and fifth largest in the world in 2015. It already has 2.5 million hectares of land used for the production of the oil.
The potential of agriculture in Nigeria is underutilized. This is the time to invest in agriculture. Without it we can’t survive the future. We are already feeling the pain now because we neglect agriculture for too long.

Processing plants are coming up in Nigeria. Since Shoprite venture into Nigeria market, there is a resurgence of food chains, big supermarket spring up everywhere in Nigeria, malls are been built, and they need reliable supplier of agricultural produce to run their factory and stores.

Tomatoes processing plants, fruit juice processing factory needs constant supplier of agricultural produce to run their factory, manufacturer needs raw materials to run their factory. In Nigeria today there is shortage of tomatoes, who will ever think that 2 tomatoes will be sold for N500 in Nigeria. Why, because we never plan for raining day. How many greenhouse do we have in Nigeria? Our problems are great opportunity to create wealth. And agriculture holds that opportunity to reduced unemployment and eradicate poverty in Nigeria.

Dangote tomatoes processing plant has just suspend production due to lack of supply of tomatoes, yet we have arable land to farm tomatoes all year round. That’s opportunity for anyone who is interested in agriculture to explore and be self-sufficient. It just shows you, the opportunity and there is good money to make in agriculture. In times of difficulties which we face today in our nation we must develop innovative ideas to survive. And agriculture holds that key to the next big thing in Nigeria.

Every problem is an opportunity to create wealth. Because money is an exchange of a problem solve. If you need money go and solve problems.

The shortage of housing is an opportunity for Real Estate development, the shortage of food is an opportunity for agribusiness and to invest in farming. The supplier chain is numerous. The shortage of energy is an opportunity for renewable energy development. The lack of proper garbage collection is an opportunity to invest in recycling. What did you see? Every problem is an opportunity to great wealth. And agriculture hold the key to great wealth.

Think agriculture think wealth.
